Classic Splunk Dashboard vs Splunk Dashboard App

Hello Readers! In this blog, we will see the difference between the Classic Splunk and Splunk Dashboard App. So first let us know, what dashboard is? It is are views that are make of panels. Panels can contain modules such as search boxes, fields, charts, tables, and lists. They are usually connect to reports after we create a search visualization or save a report. There is also an editor that we can use to create and edit dashboards.

Splunk Dashboard App:

It is the newly launch app by Splunk which is available in Splunk dashboard studio. It has some advanced features which are not present in the existing dashboard. This app provides a new visual editing experience for building and customising dashboards. The Splunk dashboards app provides two new workflows. The absolute and grid layouts and visualization in both single instances and the distributed environment.

Difference between classic splunk and splunk dashboard app:

1. Input: In the classic splunk dashboard, inputs are present. Similarly, in the new splunk dashboard app, inputs are available. But if we are using the splunk dashboard app, input can be add in the visual editor but must be configure in the source editor.
2. Dashboard default: In both the classic splunk and new splunk app, dashboard default is present, but if we are using the splunk app, setting default for a dashboard offers different levels of specification.
3. Drill down: In classic splunk it is present, while in new splunk it is in limit. If we are using a splunk app, we can only drill down to internal directories or external URL. We can’t pass tokens through drill down.
4. Token: In the classic, it is present  while in the new splunk app, it is present but limited. If we are using the splunk app, tokens can only generate using inputs.Tokens are not set when a dashboard loads. We can’t set tokens as a result of a search in new splunk app.
5. Token for visualization: In the  classic, it is present while in the new splunk app, it is in limit and if we are using the new splunk app, tokens can be use with inputs to affect visualization. Inputs and tokens must be add and configure in the source mode.
6. Layout: Layouts: In classic, row and column layout is available while in new splunk app, absolute and grid layouts are available.
7. Tokens in base chain and saved searches: In classic, it is present while in splunk app, it is there but not with the saved searches.
8. Content export single visualization: In classic, it is not available while in splunk app, it is available. We can select individual visualizations to download in png format.
9. Content export dashboard: In classic, it is in limit while in the new splunk app it allows to download dashboards in PDF format as well as in png image.
10. Custom JavaScript: Custom JavaScript: In classic it is available, while in new splunk app, it is not available.
11. CSS: In classic it is offer while in the new splunk app, it is not offer.

Conclusion:

A dashboard is use to represent tables or charts which are related to some business meaning. It is happen through panels. The panels hold the chart or summarised data in a visually appealing manner. We can add multiple panels, and hence multiple reports and charts.
