Hello everyone, one of the most basic questions asked today by admins all over the world is why we should use a particular cloud platform and what are its benefits. So today let’s have a look at what Oracle Cloud Infrasture brings on to the table and what are it benefits as compared to other cloud service providers like AWS.

Cost-Effectiveness

First things first, the costs. Some surveys show that OCI is 50-60 per cent cheaper than AWS. Also the first month you get USD 300$ or equivalent in your account to enjoy many more services with these points. For example, I have 400 SGD in my free 30 days account.

Why should we use OCI
Persistent Pricing

OCI has a consistent pricing model all across the world. In this contrast, AWS charges different prices from different regions for the same set of services. Also as a new user on OCI, you can always utilize the always free cloud tier to take the benefits of always free features. Always free tier also includes 2 ADBs with APEX and 2AMD compute instances. You also get LB and data egress. There is a lot of free services included with these too. Also in comparison to AWS, we can customize the compute shapes in OCI. You can actually modify the OCPU in OCI which is not possible in AWS.

No Noisy Neighbour

Another Important feature of OCI is that there is no noisy neighbour problem in OCI. In AWS you might face that problem due to oversubscription. There is lower latency and near bare-metal performance with OCI.Most of the enterprises has already started taking benefits of OCI and migrating their applications on it.

Low-Cost Data Egress

In AWS only the first five gigabytes is free but with OCI you almost get it for free until you reach the 10TB limit. Also in OCI, there is a fixed price in the private connectivity model. Public connectivity is also cheaper than AWS.Oracle also provides something known as Universal credits. These Credits can be used to explore and utilize any service from the platform.

OCI is 2nd Generation

Oracle is providing a mature platform with PaaS, Saas and IaaS as its offering. It also supports AI/ML and IoT. The best part is Oracle ADB with a high-speed network. Autonomous Datawarehouse ADW and Autonomouse Trasaction Processing ATP workloads are complementry to each other. In fact, ADW and ATP workloads are the USPs for using OCI. When we talk about these capabilities we also talk about its HA.Oracle databases often run faster and provide cost-effectiveness as compared to AWS.

OCI’s Strategic Integrations

OCI has partnered with MS Azure. So now the user can use the best of both worlds. It provides a dedicated cross-cloud interconnect. Oracle also plans to launch more of these integrations in future too. Pay as you go accounts are available for any PoCs and there is no commitment expected from OCI.

There are many more features which we want to discuss but for a start, it will be great if we can start with a free account and then gradually move to the paid services. The free credits are enough to get a price comparison and feature walkthrough of the OCI. Please watch this blog for more as exploring some of the most interesting features of OCI in our upcoming blogs.

One of the most interesting topics we will be covering in our future blogs is Observability & Management from OCI.
